A modern vitrified clay pipe is a combination of unique material features, added to years of experience, research and development. Through the centuries not much has changed visibly to the product. Yet there are a lot of differences. Vitrified clay pipes have been developed to the point that they have a mechanical strength that is higher than pipes in reinforced concrete. The combination of a strong rigid pipe body and a flexible joint ensures that the sewer stays sealed, even under the most extreme circumstances. Vitrified clay pipes are not damaged by high-pressure cleaning and are not affected by household or industrial effluent, not even in the long term.
Vitrified clay pipes meet all specifications that are laid down for sewers. Once the vitrified clay sewer has been correctly installed - camera inspection can confirm this – the sewer manager is assured of an almost unlimited serviceable life, with all pipe material characteristics remaining unchanged.
Vitrified clay pipes are also an uncomplicated product: The basic raw materials for the production of the pipes are entirely natural surface minerals (clay, water, grog). The production process is low energy-intensive compared to that of other sewer materials. The raw material, clay, is available in abundance and is mined in an environmentally sensitive manner. The vitrified clay pipes themselves can be recycled. They should never end up on a waste heap and will never create problems for the generations who follow us.
